Riding in The Women Only Carriage in Dubai

Riding in The Women Only Carriage in Dubai

1 min read

I took a train and rode on women and kids only carts in downtown Dubai today. It wasn’t an entirely new concept for me. It has been operating in Jakarta for some time. It’s just I had never ridden in it before.

If you had asked me about my take on the women-only carriage before I took the Dubai train, I would either say that I’d feel indifferent or that it feels a little backdated in our feminist society. But ask me now, and you would get a whole different reaction from me.

Riding in the women-only carriage in Dubai, I felt much more at ease and comfortable. And for someone who had been squeezed like sardines among stranger bodies for years during a work commute in Singapore, I know what I am talking about.

I don’t know whether it’s okay to feel to rejoice in this way, to want to vouch for women-only carriages every single day. But personally, if there is an option, I will choose to ride in it—every day.

Have you tried riding the train with women-only carriages? What’s your opinion about it?
