Korean BBQ Auckland New Zealand

A Low-Kiwi Day in Auckland

2 mins read

It’s my third day in Auckland. Still adjusting to the time difference, I struggled to wake up early this morning. But I had to pack, check out from my weekend hotel, check in to my work hotel, and go to the NZ office before 7 AM Melbourne time. Thankfully, there was a coffee shop right beside the office building.

Coffee, Carry On and Chocolate

Fueled with Auckland‘s too-milky large flat white, I started my work day. In between, there was a boardroom-style discussion on the best travel/work backpack, and the winner was AER’s Travel Pack 3 Small, which can be turned into a carry-on as well. The only downside? It costs more than a round-trip to Sydney from Melbourne.

Movenpick Auckland Chocolate Hour

By late noon, my colleague and I sneaked back to the hotel for Movenpick Chocolate Hour. It’s an hour-long free flow of chocolate and cake buffet for all the guests. It really was a nice pick-me-up in the afternoon. My favourite was the chocolate-covered fish-shaped marshmallow which took me back to my Kiwi Rail memory.

Then we continued working from our respective rooms before wrapping it up for early dinner.

I was tasked to find a place for dinner. I suggested the Korean BBQ on High Street, which I had walked up and down the day before. There were more than a few Korean restaurants on High Street (and many more in Auckland city), and we ended up in Faro after reading some convincing reviews.

We got Boram Set Menu. It got three portions of meats, six side dishes and a bowl of hot soup to share. We also got a plate of chilli Naengmyeon (Korean cold noodles) in the spirit of ordering something we had never eaten.

After dinner, my colleague returned to the hotel, and I decided to roam around a bit. I went to the Queens Wharf, the pier and the Britomart Train Station. Happy with my mini Auckland exploration session, I am now back in the hotel, showered and ready to sleep after Face-timing Fafa.
