Coma, Auckland

2 mins read

I am writing to you from my room on level 6, on my hotel bed facing a window where I can see the Auckland Sky Tower, with a severe symptom of a food coma.

Auckland Bandung Indonesian Food

My whole day and energy had been zapped with a full day of training at work. So much so that we didn’t have time to think or have a proper lunch. Around 3 PM, my colleague UberEats food to the office and ate the meal while standing up so we could wrap it up quickly before the next meeting. The food came from Bandung, an Indonesian restaurant. We had Prawn fried rice, Gado Gado, Satay and, for dessert, black rice porridge. It might sound delicious on paper, but they botched the taste. I don’t recommend it a bit.

In the evening, I explored Commercial Bay, the shopping centre beside the hotel, right before their closing time (the stores in Auckland opened a bit longer than Melbourne stores, and for this, I am thankful). I went in and out of new-to-me NZ brand stores without buying anything. Mostly because everything seems more expensive in NZD. However, it did help to take my mind off of work.

I rested in my hotel room for a bit before joining my colleagues for dinner.

Everyone was too tired to explore Auckland tonight, so we agreed to hang out in BODA, the hotel’s in-house restaurant at level 13. We had drinks and shared Asian Fusion dishes. We had Ssamjang Beef Scotch, Kung Pao Cauliflower, Scampi-less Mapo Tofu, and Wagyu Beef Tteok Galbi served on roti drizzled with chickpeas chaat. I usually avoid Asian Fusion restaurants, but I played it cool since I was with my workmates. And glad that I did, because the food was delicious.

Movenpick Chocolate Fondue

For dessert, we ordered and shared a chocolate fondue. So that’s my chocolate fondue in Auckland two days in a row.

I am tired, and my brain is tired, and so is my body. Nevertheless, it has been a good day overall. Goodnight Auckland!
