From The Desk at Gracery Hotel Shinjuku Tokyo

It’s only 7-something-AM here, but I have been up for more than an hour, so I thought I would type this quick note for us.

I flew from Hokkaido to Tokyo with Vi and her partner yesterday, and we will be here for a couple of days. Since we have been here before, we didn’t make any plans together, which is good because it means I get to explore Tokyo as a solo traveller. So the only thing on today’s schedule is to get the newly launched Apple Watch for my cousins and me. Yesterday, I saw an Apple store inside a department store just around the corner; hence I have plenty of time to do everything, anything and nothing. I am thinking of Kinokuniya, another visit to Pachinko, and maybe checking out the Forest Beer Garden that my Japanese friend told me about.

Before all that, let me share the Tokyo skyline this morning taken from my perfect room in this almost-perfect hotel.

Though I don’t usually care much about chain hotels, the Gracery Hotel Shinjuku (which I assumed is a chain) is something else. The newly built hotel is super tall and looks more like an office building from the outside. It has comfortable rooms with plenty of space (mine has a bathtub and a writing table) and a fantastic view – and the price was a steal! The hotel staff were helpful, and so was the concierge. Also, a local restaurant is attached to the back of this hotel, where I plan to dine before checking out.

I really hope it stays as is for years to come – but as you know, nothing is guaranteed in life, so I am going to stay in my room for a little longer; soaking in the bathtub, taking more pictures of Tokyo from above, writing postcards and my diary.
