Hi-May!
🍗 — I had my first Jollibee at Lucky Plaza. My Filipina friend Jena has been raving about it for ages, so when it finally came to Singapore, I felt like I had to check it out. She always talked about the gravy, so I dutifully dunked my Chickenjoy and took a bite while she watched. It was good, but different in a way my taste buds didn’t quite know how to handle gravy-ish fast food. Maybe Jollibee is an acquired taste? I’ll need to try it a few more times before I can call it. For research purposes, obviously.
🥾 — I read and loved Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and now it sits right up there as one of my all-time favourite books, a very close second to Eat Pray Love. I didn’t expect a book about hiking over a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail to get me (I am not a hiker, and I like my feet), but it was never really about the walking. It was about grief, starting over, and choosing yourself when everything falls apart, which is exactly the kind of story that finds me at the right time. Maybe it’s no coincidence that my top two are both women packing up their broken lives and going somewhere far away to put themselves back together. I see a pattern. I like the pattern.
