My Japan Trip Weird Japan

Japan Trip The Good The New and The Culture Part 2

2 mins read

I flew to Japan last Saturday with my best friends. My second Japan trip, to fulfil the pact we made at the airport three years ago, to come back again because it’s JAPAN!

I dislike repeating things and for someone who hasn’t seen much of the world and with limited work leave, I shouldn’t agree to do another Japan trip this soon. But it’s Japan. It’s where my heart lies. It’s not like I am going to say no to my friend’s invitation or was it me who initiated, it to begin with.

Japan Trip

This time my Japan trip was to Hokkaido, in Summer.

Japan Trip

Our plan was to do a road trip from Sapporo to two or three more cities. I didn’t really know much of the details because my friend researched and arranged everything, including providing us with a complete itinerary and print of the necessary documents. My friend can read maps, and drive and is an excellent tour guide. You, tell me, would you do any research if you have a friend like mine? Nope, I don’t think so either.

The problem came at the beginning when we couldn’t do a road trip because my friend’s driver’s license wasn’t accepted in Japan.

The trip ended up a bit messy. I brought a work laptop and had to work a few hours every day. Also, summer in Japan was unbearable. I tried an authentic Hokkaido breakfast but didn’t like it. Back in Tokyo, when I was solo travelling, I was drenched in sweat and felt tired all the time.

There were many highlights of my Japan trip: experiencing and learning more about the Japanese culture every day, attending the Japanese summer festival in Otaru, the all-inclusive stay at Lake Akan, the Godzilla hotel in Shinjuku and visiting Farm Tomita. But unfortunately, I didn’t get to do the Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market and I am so bummed because they are closing at the end of 2016.
