Kulture Kween Amma Cooking

Not a Newsletter: Jan22 Edition

Do you remember precisely when Covid turned your life upside down? Mine was when I reached Bali and got a plethora of text messages about the then-new-to-me Covid thing. That was two years ago. Today, I get to eat Amma’s homecooked meal at the dining table together with my parents. And for that, I am deeply thankful.

This Month

I tried to do a No-Instagram January and failed on day 12 when I needed some comfort between booking my flight ticket, paying for an overpriced PCR test, taking the test, booking my hotel quarantine and packing. The good news is, after seven days of hotel quarantine (more about it soon), I met my parents.

I legit felt traveling PTSD

The rest of the month has been filled with hanging out with them and my cousins, WFH during Australia working hours – and dying a little in spirit each morning for waking up at 4 AM and eating good food.

Love and Found

I got to travel overseas again, and it was incredibly heart-warming to land at Singapore Changi Airport.

Have you heard the saying, “You are one decision away from living a completely different life”? Guess what? I wear Crocs now, and I am a believer. However, I fear that if I tell Fafa about this, he’ll never ask me to come home again.

I watched Archive 81 virtually with Fafa daily for a week or so. Highly recommend!

Next Month

I look forward to celebrating my cousin’s wedding, Galentine’s Day, with Amma and Appa’s birthday, hanging out with my cousins, and having a hot pot with Cheryl, whom I last met at my wedding in 2018.

I am excited about getting The Midnight Tarot which I have wanted for months. It’s being shipped from an indie bookstore in Singapore, The Moon Singapore, to my parents’ address. I hope it comes before I fly back to Melbourne, which I am also super looking forward to. I didn’t expect to be missing home this soon, but here I am – counting the days to go back.
