The Real Groundhog Day Not Starring Tom Hanks

1 min read

I just learned that Groundhog Day is based on a “real” observed holiday in America and Canada, involving some superstition and the animal groundhog, which looks like a beaver. It’s celebrated every second of February, as in today.

I grew up only knowing it as the somewhat thought-provoking movie starring Bill Murray (for the longest time, I thought it was Tom Hanks) that I watched about a decade ago.

Well, you live, and you learn (new tidbits about other cultures). Or you repeat another day. You know, a la Groundhog Day.

So, Happy Groundhog Day, I guess. You can celebrate it by watching the movie with the same namesake.
