Fiji has an official tagline:
“Open for Happiness”.
I first read it when we reached the airport and thought, “Aw, that’s nice?”. But I didn’t mull over it. Maybe because I was tired from the flight, hungry or just too busy catching up with Jik, who I hadn’t seen for a solid month.
But now, leaving this beautiful island; its beautiful people, food and its community, I fully understand the “Open for Happiness” tagline.
During my short time here, my heart, too, has been filled with incredible warmth – happiness.
By the people of Fiji. Tia, the Marine biologist; Nemani, the village elderly; Moses, the sinking raft driver; the taxi driver who drove us around safely; the resort restaurant waiters who supplied endless bird-eye chilli.
By the beauty of Fiji. By the taste of Fiji. By Fiji.
Bye, Fiji! I am returning with my heart lighter, more open and happy. For that, Bula Vinaka Fiji. Til’ we meet again.
