Brussels Belgium

36 hours from Jakarta to Brussels

3 mins read

36 hours later we are in Brussels!

We started in Jakarta yesterday, flying to Doha for a short layover before arriving in Amsterdam.

We qued in the immigration for close to two hours and then hung out in the airport for another hour, taking pictures of each other and drinking hot cocoa instead of buying the train tickets to Brussels, which meant we had to stand up for another two hours inside a pack train cart.

Brussels Belgium

Finally, we reached Brussels early evening, not knowing what time it was supposed to be for us anymore.

Our Airbnb, an excellent two-bedroom apartment in the Bergstraat neighbourhood, overlooked a lovely street with the same name. After putting in the luggage, we decided to venture out but not before putting on my first trench coat and feeling like I was Olivia Pope from Scandal.

Again, not knowing what time it was, whether we were hungry or sleepy or just jet legged, we walked around the town centre or what looked like a town centre and took tons of pictures.

We also had Belgian fries (which I err.. don’t know whether I liked) and Belgian waffles, which I loved.

On the way back to the Airbnb, I finally told my cousins that I had kept a travel blog – this blog. I don’t usually tell people IRL about the blog, but the moment appeared, and I felt inclined to do so.

Soon after, we retrieved back to our bedrooms. My cousin read and commented on my blog while I unpacked and repacked my kitchen sink backpack.

Tomorrow we have a whole day itinerary in Brussels planned by Astrid, a friend of my cousin who is also an Indonesian living in Brussels (I am jealous!). For someone who usually prepares the itinerary to the T, it will be a go-with-the-flow day for me, and I am super looking forward to it.
