Melbourne

Melbourne Trip Begins…

2 mins read

We touched down in Melbourne this afternoon.

After almost an hour’s bus ride to the city, we finally reached the hotel. Though it has plenty of sunshine (opposite the gloomy Sydney we flew from), Melbourne’s vibe has been pretty mellow.

The city doesn’t feel like a vacation destination.

Though we are staying in the city centre, I don’t see anything categorised as alike, not a tourist spot. So after putting our luggage in, we headed out for late lunch. Or early-dinner. Well, some in-between meals.

As the locals dubbed it, we reached the iconic Lygon Street, the Little Italia, and lingered a little too long near the heaters placed outside the restaurants.

We then went to the Southbank, where we were told to have many eating choices, but it was too fancy, so we went back to Lygon Street for an Italian dinner.

I had a very expensive chicken risotto, thinking it would satisfy my rice craving. I was so SO wrong. Never again a risotto for me.

At night we had coffee at Gloria Jeans. I used to go to Gloria Jeans while living in Jakarta many years ago. I love this coffee shop. They have super large windows, coat hangers, and my beloved flat white. But, unfortunately, they close at 10 PM. What??!

Even the Mamak coffee shops in my neighbourhood in Bishan, Singapore, stay open after midnight.

So what does Melbournian do after 10 PM, I wonder? I know it has only been less than a day, but I don’t think Melbourne is worth visiting as a tourist so far.

But maybe to live in?
