Where to Next? My 2026 Travel Wish List

3 mins read

I am dreaming about cities, countries and continents to visit next, and this travel wish list keeps growing. It is a long, never-ending list (as all good lists are), but for now, Scotland, Vanuatu, Sri Lanka, Morocco, and Richmond (because of Ted Lasso) sit right at the top.

My Travel Wish List, the Top Five

1. Scotland
Moody skies, castles on every other hill and roads that wind through the Highlands like something out of a film. I want Edinburgh’s Old Town, a drive out to the Isle of Skye, and at least one whisky tasting where I pretend to detect notes of peat and heather. Best visited in late spring or summer, when the days are long, and the weather is only mildly dramatic.

2. Vanuatu
Vanuatu is the one on this list that feels almost too close to have not done yet. It is only a short flight from the east coast of Australia, and it promises blue water, kava ceremonies and Mount Yasur on Tanna Island, one of the most accessible active volcanoes in the world. Standing on the rim of a live volcano is a true bucket-list moment.

3. Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has been calling me for years. Tea plantations in the hill country, the train ride to Ella everyone talks about, rice and curry with too many sambols to count, and Ceylon cinnamon straight from the source. It is a country where food and culture are tangled together, which is exactly how I like to travel.

4. Morocco
Ever since my first tahini bake at Moroccan Soup Bar, I have wanted to taste Morocco at the source. I picture myself getting lost in the medina of Fes, sleeping in a riad in Marrakech, eating tagine every day and bargaining (badly) for a lamp I do not need. A night in the Sahara under the stars sits firmly on the dream itinerary.

5. Richmond, London
Not Richmond, Melbourne (I can tram there any time). I mean Richmond upon Thames, the leafy corner of London where Ted Lasso was filmed. I want to find the pub that played the Crown and Anchor, walk along the river, spot the deer in Richmond Park and say “believe” out loud at least once without irony.

A travel wish list is never really finished. Tick one place off and three more sneak in, which is half the fun. This is just the top of mine for now, and I have more lists brewing, including where to go next in Japan and where to go next in Europe. So tell me, where is next on yours?
