The Jagalchi Fish Market in Busan starts outside, where fresh catches are displayed in front of rows of restaurants. I never thought I’d be so excited to see dead fish before <*))))><
I know, I sound like a fish market enthusiast, but Jagalchi is one of the top five fish markets in the world—that alone makes it worth visiting. Honestly, I think I like it even better than the Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul. Still not convinced? Then go for lunch. If you love seafood, you won’t find anything fresher on your plate.
And the choices! An overwhelming abundance, including some pretty unusual ones. Go wild, I say!
Sea Cucumber Flashback in Jagalchi Fish Market, Busan
Speaking of choices, I noticed many stalls selling sea cucumber, and if my mental math was right, they weren’t cheap—which I found fascinating. I grew up eating sea cucumber, or as we call it back in Indonesia, tripang or trepang, because Appa loves it. Every time we ordered Cap Chay, it was guaranteed to come with trepang. It’s been years since I last had it, so spotting it here gave me a jolt of nostalgia—like a flash from a past life—right in the middle of Jagalchi Fish Market, Busan.
