From Zoo to Zzz: My Delicious Sydney Food Stopovers

4 mins read

Our first impromptu Sydney food tour has been awesome so far. The day started with breakfast at Sydney Potts Point and ended with a satisfying Kings Cross Thai takeaway packed in a Chinese takeout box, which until today I had only seen in Western TV shows – like Friends and TBBT.

We went to Potts Point’s Toby Estate for a good brekkie, hoping it would cure the hangover (Woke up with a hangover today. The cheap 2012 Moscato after-effect was bad. Bad. Bad…). It ended up being pricey. They have an item on the menu called Backpackers’ Breakfast; it costs $20, which I assumed is the same amount some backpackers pay for a night’s stay around here. The food was only okay, but the interior details were praiseworthy.

Sydney Martin Place and Lindt Café

Today’s Sydney trip itinerary includes the Taronga Zoo, but first, we stopped at Martin Place. I like the neighbourhood. It’s perfect for people-watching, especially on a workday. Almost everyone looked busy, rich and sophisticated.

And then I spotted Lindt Café. My favourite chocolatier has a café (and later I learned, many cafés) and I didn’t know about this?! I walked in and behaved like a total village idiot for ten good minutes.

There are too many chocolates, too many flavours, and too many Lindt. My favourite is the Lindt Chocolate Spoon.

Sydney Opera House

After zooing, we spent our evening at the Opera House. Have I declared my love for this aesthetic building today? I adore you, Sydney Opera House; you are gorgeous.

We took tons of pictures in front of it. We made a toast to our fabulous trip at the Opera Bar. A must-go as part of the Sydney Food Tour. Good wine collection, a better view of the bridge and a great mix of tourists. If you can only have a few hours in Sydney, make sure you spend them here.

I also managed to score things I want from the Sydney Opera House gift shop for my parents and best friends.

Sydney Darling Harbour

After the Sydney Opera House, we spent our evening at Sydney Darling Harbour. We walked around it. Hugging each other, fighting the cold air. We ended up at a mall with a food court and had dinner there.

Indian food is for me, and Japanese food is for my cousins.

After that, we went home early since everyone was tired. Resisting the cold was a tiring job. We slept off for a while before waking up feeling unsettled and unsatisfied.

So Jik and I went downstairs for the Thai food takeaway, Paperbox. We ordered fried rice and noodles. It was delicious. I am a typical Asian who needs to eat rice to feel complete. And I finally did during this impromptu Sydney food tour.

I filled up the postcards, applied lip balm on my chapped lips, and got ready to sleep without touching the cheap Moscato.
