Well, since I wrote one for Iceland, I thought I might as well update my very outdated Amsterdam/Netherlands list, too.
In 2011, I wrote: I have to tick off some things on my Amsterdam travel list, including the Jordaan and Rembrandtplein, among others. Meanwhile, I’ll need to come back for Dutch Pancake, Stroopwafel, Albert Cuypmarkt, Bloemenmarkt, Bitterballen, and Bittergarnituur.
Some of the things from the above list that I recently managed to tick off are Jordaan and Rembrandtplein, Stroopwafel, Albert Cuypmarkt, Bloemenmarkt, bitterballen, eat a Frikandel, and drink Chocomel.
Unfortunately, Dutch pancakes and a plate of Bittergarnituur are still TBT.
In the meantime, I’ve also added a few more to the list:
- Have a Dutch cuisine dinner at Moeders
- Visit Haarlem
- Hang out with Toeps in Utrecht
- Visit the Red Light District Museum
- Get a stronger “cake”
- Eat Indonesian Rijsttafel all over the Netherlands. On my list are Toko Nur and Blauw
- Visit Boekhandel Dominicanen in Maastricht
- Stay in an Airbnb overlooking the canal in the autumn
- Attend Meik Wiking’s next book signing or travel somewhere nearby by train for it
- Compare the apple pie at Winkel 43 (recommended by my childhood bestie and fellow foodie, Peth) with the one at Papeneiland (recommended by my kind-hearted colleague, Nicole)
- Try the herring sandwich at Vishandel Centrum (also recommended by Nicole)
- Buy a cheese platter and Dansk Danish cookware
- Get crystals from the rock store in Jordaan
- Eat (another) Frikandel and drink Fristi

[…] biryani meal on the transit flight to the Netherlands via Dubai looked appetising, and I am sure it would taste the same had I not finished a space […]
