Bromo White-Water Rafting and Team-Building on the Rapids

2 mins read

I did Bromo white-water rafting today — and if you know me, you’ll know this is probably the most adventurous thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’m not exactly the type to chase adrenaline, but my workmates have a way of convincing me. After the fun run we did together as a team, these adventure-loving people are slowly turning me into one of them.

The Bromo white-water rafting was obviously fun. As a team, we worked just as well on the water as we do in the office. The rafting itself was a blast. We even had Jen’s GoPro capturing our every scream, splash, and unsynchronised paddle stroke. The rapids were exhilarating, the scenery was stunning, and yes, we got soaked — exactly as expected.

You’d think my childhood experience on a rafting ride in a theme park — where my seatbelt came undone and I was thrown into the middle of the raft while random strangers (my parents were watching from the side; they’d taken me out for a day of fun, and honestly, it remains one of my most treasured childhood memories) tried to grab me — would have been enough to deter me from doing the Bromo white-water rafting.

But no, I gripped the raft tightly this time, my teammates did the same, and we powered through every rapid. Aside from Andre losing a toenail — which, in true Andre fashion, he brushed off as “part of the adventure” — we all made it back to shore safe and sound.

Bromo white-water rafting, another bucket list item ticked off — even if it wasn’t originally on my list. Tomorrow, we take on our next challenge, an item that’s actually on my bucket list: hiking Mount Bromo. My calves are not ready, but my spirit? Absolutely.
