Ten Hours in KiwiRail from Auckland to Wellington

2 mins read

KiwiRail trail is a 10-hour scenic New Zealand train ride stretching from Auckland to Wellington, and I was beyond ecstatic to ride on it.

When you travel with me, you will get to know my obsession with trains. My friends have heard things like, “If the train is an option, let’s take the train” or “If it’s not an option, let’s make it an option“.

Yes, I am like Sheldon (especially the annoying parts), though he is into facts and toy trains, while I am more into taking pictures in front of them and scenic rides. So, I am super excited to take another ride this month; more soon. But, for now, let me share one of my favourite train rides, The Northern Express by Kiwirail.

It took us through the most breathtaking journey I had experienced in my entire life. I saw herds of sheep and cows, snow mountains, rocky beaches, farmlands, and the countryside. To top it all off, it was one gorgeous day.

We saw a cute barn on the way.

So every time we bought a hot drink from the KiwiRail “restaurant” inside the train, they gave us this chocolate-coated marshmallow. So yum! I stole Fafa’s as well.

I saw the biggest natural snow cone.

We also spotted the cutest Kiwi and packed her back with us. She is now hanging out in front of the fridge.

And we saw the bluest sky! It looked like a scene from a video game.

New Zealand took my breath away again and again.

KiwiRail train has its canteen cart, complete with a dining area, where I hung out most of the time because I wanted to eat something or another.

I feel so lucky to be able to experience the KiwiRail journey.

Do include KiwiRail in your itinerary when you travel to New Zealand. I was in a state of joy for 10 hours. It was the highlight of our first-ever trip to New Zealand.

Do you like taking the train? What is the most memorable train ride in your life?
